Create a Repository

Create a new repository from your account by choosing a display name, an optional slug, a default branch, a description, and a visibility setting.

Step 1 - Open the Create Repository Form

Choose New repository from your account. git.eu requires a verified email address before the form is shown - an unverified account sees a prompt to verify instead.

Step 2 - Name the Repository

Enter a display name - the human-readable title shown throughout the UI, up to 128 characters. A slug is generated automatically from the display name for the repository's URL; you can override it with your own slug of up to 128 characters: letters, digits, dots, hyphens, and underscores, starting and ending with a letter or digit, with no two symbols in a row, and not ending in .git, .atom, or .html. Names like my_tool or docs.git.eu work as is.

Step 3 - Choose a Default Branch

Pick master, main, or a custom branch name for the repository's initial default branch. This becomes the branch most other operations - browsing, diffing, merge target selection - default to when no other branch is specified.

Step 4 - Add a Description and Set Visibility

An optional description, up to 500 characters, helps others understand the repository's purpose. Toggle Private to restrict read access to the repository - see Visibility for what public and private control.

Step 5 - Submit

git.eu validates the display name, slug, and default branch, creates the repository, and takes you to its landing page.
