Files

The file tree and file viewer are the primary way to explore a repository's contents at any branch, tag, or commit.

Browsing the File Tree

Open a repository and pick a branch to see its file tree - folders and files at the repository root, or at any subpath. Breadcrumbs above the listing track your current path, and a branch/tag dropdown lets you jump to the same path on a different ref without retyping the URL.

Viewing a File

Click any file in the tree to open the file viewer. Content is syntax-highlighted client-side based on the file's name and extension - no server-side processing of file content is involved, and file types the highlighter does not recognize fall back to a plain, unhighlighted view.

Large Files

Note: very large files are truncated by default so the page stays fast to load; a "show full file" link at the top of the viewer loads the complete content on demand.

Access

Browsing the file tree and viewing a file are both open to anonymous visitors on a public repository; a private repository requires an explicit read grant for either - see Visibility.
