One month of change, shipped to the beta environment: OAuth login for git clone, syntax highlighting, MFA and magic-link login • plus a security and platform overhaul underneath.

End of dev26.git.eu & new beta2 server

The server dev26.git.eu will be shut down on 25 August 2026. The new server address for beta testing is beta2.git.eu

OAuth for git clone

No more token copy-paste. git clone on a private repository opens the browser, you approve, and the clone proceeds.

  • Works with standard credential helpers • git-credential-oauth, Git Credential Manager. No proprietary CLI to install.

Syntax highlighting

  • Code is now colourised in the web viewer • file view, blame, and all three diff pages.

MFA and magic-link login

  • TOTP authenticator apps with QR enrolment, recovery codes, and trusted devices.
  • Passwordless magic-link sign-in.
  • Password, email, and username changes require MFA confirmation when enabled.

Viewer polish

  • Line anchors and permalinks with one-click copy.
  • Line-wrap toggle.
  • Collapsible files in commit diffs.
  • Day-grouped commit navigation.
  • Ref search and per-branch ahead/behind stats.
  • Annotated vs lightweight tag badges.

Security under the hood

  • One access-control decision point for every repository request.
  • Database-backed repository write lock • concurrent pushes cannot corrupt a repository.

Platform work

The deep architectural change announced in the first update is done: a new ORM and data engine, production hardening. This was plumbing • the visible result is a stronger base for the features above.

Progress in brief

  • Core:
    • ✅ Change of the ORM and many core components. This lays the foundation for a scalable, resilient git.eu.
    • ✅ IPv6 test server, you can try beta2 using IPv4 or IPv6

    • ✅ OAuth login for git clone (device flow + PKCE)

    • ✅ Git repo web view: syntax highlighting on file view, blame, diffs

Where we stand

git.eu is in beta • not production-ready yet. The pre-production server that you can use daily is planned for September.
